I know. I love it. Every time I walk past my closet and pull out a piece of clothing that reminds me of a costume in a video game, I feel like I am getting closer to a magical moment.

I could argue for a long time that fantasy gaming is all about having a costume that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing (see the above photo of me wearing a cape in Fallout: New Vegas). This is not to say that fantasy gaming is “about” the costume itself. In fact, many of the games are a bit more “realistic” than that. But it is a big part of fantasy gaming’s identity.
